Quick‑start setup

1

Place it and plug it into the TV

Open the fold-out hinge and rest the device on top of the TV (angle it as needed), or leave the hinge folded and set it on the TV stand close by. Connect the included HDMI cable from the device's TO TV port to any open HDMI port on the TV. Note which one (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.). Tip for wall-mounted TVs: connect all cables to the device first, then set it in place. Prefer to watch first? Here's a 2-minute unboxing video.

2

Keep their cable box working (optional)

If they watch TV through a cable or satellite box, plug that box's HDMI cable into the device's INPUT port. Their regular channels pass right through, nothing about their normal TV watching changes.

3

Switch the TV to that input

Using the TV remote, press Input or Source and choose the HDMI port you plugged into. You'll see the HomeTogether welcome screen.

4

Power it and connect to Wi‑Fi

Connect the included USB-C power cable (6 feet long) and plug it in. There is no power switch, it's designed to stay plugged in all the time. Follow the on-screen prompts with the included remote to pick your home Wi-Fi and enter the password once. The device registers itself and updates automatically, then it's ready. (A wired Ethernet connection to the router also works if you prefer.)

5

Add family in the app

Download the HomeTogether companion app on your phone to add contacts, schedule calls, and set reminders. Then make your first call!

Getting set up

Setting up the device

Where should the device sit? +
On top of the TV is best: open the fold-out hinge, rest it on the TV, and angle it so it faces the room. On a wall-mounted TV, connect all the cables to the device first, then set it in place. Prefer the TV stand? Leave the hinge folded flat and place it as close to the TV as possible. The camera has a wide 120-degree view, so it does not need to be perfectly centered.
Will they lose their regular TV channels? +
No. The device has a pass-through INPUT port, plug their cable or satellite box into it and their normal channels work exactly as before. HomeTogether gently appears over the TV only when there is a call or reminder.
Connecting the cables, which goes where? +
Two cables, both included: the HDMI cable goes from the device's TO TV port to any open HDMI port on the TV, and the USB-C power cable (6 feet) goes to a power outlet. If they have a cable box, its HDMI goes into the device's INPUT port. A wired Ethernet cable to the router is optional if you would rather not use Wi-Fi. That is the whole job, here is the 2-minute video.
Is there a power button I need to worry about? +
No, and that is on purpose. The device has no power switch and is designed to stay plugged in all the time, so it is always ready for a call. It updates itself automatically, usually overnight.
I'm setting this up for Mom who lives in another city +
That is exactly how most families use it. We set up her account before the box ships, so whoever is at the house (Mom, a neighbor, anyone) just plugs in two cables and follows the friendly on-screen steps. And we are happy to be on the phone during setup, it usually takes under ten minutes.
It won't connect to Wi-Fi +
Double-check the Wi-Fi password (it is case-sensitive) and that the router is nearby and working. Both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks work. If the house has no internet at all, ask us about the built-in cellular internet add-on ($35/month). Still stuck? Send us a note and we will get you connected.

Calls & family

Calling, family & photos

How do calls work for my loved one? +
Family calls appear right on the TV, they just see your face and say hello. For trusted family you choose, calls can even answer automatically after a gentle announcement, perfect when reaching the remote is hard. Only people you have approved can ever call the TV.
How do I add another family member? +
Open the companion app on your phone, go to Contacts, and send an invite. They get a welcome email, create their login, and then they can call the TV and join group calls too. There is no limit on family members and no extra charge.
Can we do group calls, or use Zoom? +
Yes to both. Group video calls work with up to 10 family members at once, and Zoom meetings can appear right on the TV too, handy for telehealth appointments or church groups.
How do photos get on their TV? +
Anyone in the family app can share photos and short videos to the TV. They land in a gallery your loved one can browse with the remote, and can play as a slideshow. It is everyone's favorite feature.
How do I schedule a call or a reminder? +
In the companion app, choose Schedule to set up a call time, or Reminders to add gentle on-screen nudges for medications, meals, or appointments. Scheduled calls show up on their TV ahead of time so nothing ever startles them.
I can't see or hear on a call +
Make sure the TV volume is up and not muted, and that both people have a strong internet connection. Ending and restarting the call usually clears it right up.

Privacy & safety

Privacy and watching over them

Is the camera always watching? +
No. The camera has an automatic privacy shutter that stays physically closed and only opens during a video call, you can see it with your own eyes. No video is ever recorded, and nobody can silently watch.
Then how does it watch over them safely? +
Between calls, safety monitoring uses radar motion sensing, it senses movement and activity patterns, not images. The family can see that Mom is up and moving without a camera ever being on. Optional add-on sensors extend this to other rooms, the bedroom, the hallway, doors.
Who can call or see anything? +
Only the people you approve. You choose the family members and caregivers on the account, and you can change the list anytime in the app or by asking us.
What safety alerts are there? +
The device can flag unusual patterns, like no motion during normal waking hours, and wellness alerts appear for the family. With the whole-home sensor add-on you can also cover door activity and room occupancy. If you use our virtual caregiver visits, a trained caregiver is also laying real eyes on your loved one every weekday.

Reminders & wellness

Reminders, health & channels

How do medication reminders work? +
You set them in the family app, and they appear gently on the TV at the right times, over whatever they are watching. Your loved one confirms with one press of the remote, and the family can see the history of what was acknowledged.
Can it track blood pressure and other readings? +
Yes, with the connected health readings add-on ($10/month). Supported Bluetooth home devices send readings automatically, and the family sees them in the app in real time. Compatible devices include:
  • Blood pressure: Omron (BP7250, BP7255, BP7350, BP7450, EVOLV, BP7900), A&D Medical (UA-651BLE, UA-770BLE), Beurer BC 54
  • Weight scales: Omron BCM-500, A&D UC-352BLE (keep the A&D scale close to the device, its Bluetooth range is short)
  • Blood glucose: Roche Accu-Chek Guide
  • Pulse ox: Nonin 3230, A&D UP-200BLE, BerryMed BM1000B/C, Beurer PO 60
  • Thermometers: Beurer OT 30, FT 95
Already own one of these? It'll work. Shopping for one? Here's the manufacturer's always-current compatibility list, or ask us and we'll point you to the right model.
What are the included channels? +
Every HomeTogether comes with an engagement bundle at no extra charge: senior-friendly exercise classes, virtual travel, memory-care programming, performances, and faith and music content, all on the TV they already watch.
The on-screen weather is wrong +
The weather comes from the ZIP code on the account. If your loved one moves or it looks off, tell us the right ZIP and we will update it for you.

Troubleshooting

When something is not working

The TV isn't showing HomeTogether +
Make sure the TV's input is set to the HDMI port the device is plugged into, press Input or Source on the TV remote and cycle to the right HDMI (1, 2, 3...). Also check that the device is plugged into power.
The remote stopped responding +
First try fresh AA batteries, that fixes it most of the time. If it still won't respond it may need re-pairing, which takes about a minute: send us a note or call and we will walk you through it.
Something seems frozen or stuck +
The gentle fix that solves most things: unplug the device's power cable, wait ten seconds, and plug it back in. It restarts, reconnects, and updates itself. Their TV and channels are unaffected.
Calls are choppy or blurry +
That is almost always the internet connection. Move the router closer if possible, or ask us about the wired Ethernet option or the cellular internet add-on. We are glad to help figure out which would help most.

Billing & returns

Billing, plans & returns

How does billing work? +
HomeTogether TV is $99/month with free shipping, billed to your card. Optional add-ons (cellular internet, whole-home sensors, health readings) appear as clear line items on the same monthly bill. Caregiver visit plans are billed weekly, separately, since they are a per-week service.
Can I cancel or return it? +
Yes. You have a 30-day money-back guarantee, if it is not right for your family, contact us for a full refund, no restocking fees. After that, you can cancel the monthly plan anytime, no contracts.
What happens to the device when I cancel? +
It is part of the subscription, so it comes back to us, and we make it easy: we email you a prepaid return label, you drop it off in any sturdy box within 30 days, and you get a confirmation when it arrives. Full details are in our Return Policy.
Can I add visits or add-ons later? +
Anytime. Add caregiver visits or device add-ons from the checkout page (there is a section for existing customers), or just send us a note and we will set it up on your existing bill.
Why are caregiver visits Monday to Friday? +
It lets the same amazing caregiver come at the same times every day, that steady rhythm is how real trust grows. Weekends stay family time, and your video calling works 24/7 every day of the week.
